This is the second piece for the series of artwork based on North American wildlife and Native American craft and culture (for a better description, see ‘Sacred Ceremony’).
A grey wolf smokes his handcrafted totem pipe. The wolf head on the pipe is inspired by a wooden carving that I own myself. The composition came out nicely, yet I find that I may have gone a little too dark again… especially on the ears and muzzle. The fur and feather texture is as I wanted, but I wish the darn colours hadn’t faded so fast! Erh!

This is really beautiful, love the detail in the fur texturing, and the smoke is seriously impressive given that it's in traditional media :D

This is true; my comment wasn't meant to deride the piece in any way, and the smoke pattern is fantastically rendered - but a digital colouration could potentially give a "smokier" effect, if you get my drift. Course it might not be the same picture anymore if it were, so perhaps best to ignore me ^^;

Thank you very much. :) This was a mixture of many things; watercolour paints, gouache, colour pencil and ink. All worked into layers really. It's pretty old now, but I do so love this way of working. :)
